Halwell (South Devon) for Fs 2002 only

Scenery created by Steve Mullen using Derek Leung's Fs Scenery Creator and Matthias Bruckner's Easy Object Designer.
Requires Gerrish Grey's trees_v31.ZIP downloadable seperately.

Fully compatible with Just Flight & Get Mapping VFR Photographic Scenery Wales & South West England.

Halwell

The airfield is situated just off the A3122 between Halwell and Dartmouth. It is the home of the South Hams Flying club and is used by a mix of microlights and light aircraft. The field comprises of a 420m grass strip lying East West and is surrounded by farmland. A large old fashioned barn dominates the enterance to the field and provides limited hangarage for some microlights.

The Scenery & Installation.

Designed with Just Flight & Get Mapping VFR Scenery and the supplied terrain mesh in mind the scenery has been created using photo's of buildings on the airfield to create the textures. The nearby barns and filling station have been created as VFR reference points and use default flightsim and hand drawn textures. Trees are created using Gerrish Grey's excellent trees_v31 which you will need to download seperately from avsim or any of the other popular flightsim sites.

The actual field is situated on a hillside but this has not been possible to replicate due to the design limitations of Flightsim and the design programmes used. The elevation is within 20 feet of the real thing and the surrounding terrain using the mesh supplied with VFR scenery looks generally accurate apart from one or two anomalies.

I have included 2 extra bgls named Dart Flat and Dart Flat_A16N. These flatten the river Dart and make it appear more natural as the VFR mesh creates hills in the middle of the river. There was a trade off in that some parts of the shoreline may look incorrect but from aloft the river looks better. If you don't like the effect of the flatten switch on the Dart just remove these 2 bgl files.

To install the scenery unzip the file into a temporary folder and place the contents of the scenry folder into ADDON SCENERY/SCENERY within Fs 2k2. The contents of the texture folder can be placed in the Texture folder within addon scenery or in the main texture folder for FS 2k2. I recomend placing the textures in the main texture folder as having duplicates of textures in different folders can slow Flightsim down.If the bgl files from the scenery folder are placed into the SCENERY folder of Addon Scenery then no further action is needed to use the scenery. If they are placed anywhere else the scenery will have to be activated using the scenery database in Flightsim.

The scenery will show in the Airports list as Halwell, airport code X1HA and the City as Dartmouth.

Future Plans.

I am currently re working my old version of East Soar airfield near Salcombe to include photo realistic textures and to fit into VFR Scenery.

I hope to be able to recreate several of the small farm strips around Devon & Cornwall over the coming months again to fit into VFR Scenery. I have been able to research the various strips from the Devon Strut Website but if anyone can supply photo's of buildings on the local fields please contact me on the above e mail address.
